“DE Lima you are finished. Tapos ka na…sunod na election (You are finished…in the next election).”
These were the words uttered by President Rodrigo Duterte in a press briefing in Davao on Thursday.
The President was apparently referring to Senator Leila de Lima’s political career that might just end now that he had exposed her alleged immorality and linked her and her alleged driver and lover to the illegal drug trade inside the National Penitentiary.
The President said De Lima is undergoing a nightmare now, embroiled in a controversy in her personal life.
The verbal tussle between the President and the senator ignited even before the Senate chaired by De Lima herself, has launched a committee hearing this week on possible human rights violations committed by law enforcers in connection with the deaths of suspected drug dealers and users in the course of the government’s anti-drug operations.

Philippine president accused of bribery

SENATOR Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. on Monday publicly accused Philippine President Benigno Aquino III of bribing members of the upper chamber to vote for the ouster of former chief justice Renato Corona.

In a televised privilege speech, Revilla disclosed that Aquino met him at his official residence only to convince him to secure a guilty vote for Corona.

The movie actor-turned politician also alleged that Aquino meddled with his decision regarding the impeachment of the former chief justice.

Corona was put on trial last year for his failure to disclose to the public his statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN). Senators who voted him guilty were said to have been “bribed” to do so.
